Ductile & Gray
We manufacture ductile, austempered ductile, and gray iron castings in weights of a few ounces up to 80 pounds.
We operate a fully functional in-house machine shop. Our custom, high efficiency fixtures provide fast cycle time and competitive pricing.
We provide additional services such as product development assistance, machining, heat treating, painting, coating, assembly, and packaging.
Galesburg Castings Inc., whose founder, John Fox, started the company in Galesburg in 1994, has merged with Faircast Inc. headquartered in Fairfield, Iowa.
“After much thought and deliberation on how best to serve our customers given industry trends and current economic factors, Galesburg Castings, Inc. has made the strategic decision to merge with Faircast, Inc., a similar manufacturer of ductile and gray iron castings,” said Galesburg Castings owners, the Fox Family.
“We believe this merger ultimately honors the legacy of Galesburg Castings founder, John Fox, who had been in the foundry industry for over fifty years,” said Faircast president, Ken Ledoux. “Several of our Faircast owners knew and worked with John over the years and we believe he would have championed this merger.”
The companies plan to combine Galesburg Castings’ investments in foundry technology with the scale and breadth of Faircast’s molding capabilities, a combination that collectively will provide an even better product to their ductile and gray iron castings customers.
As part of the merger, manufacturing operations of both companies will be consolidated into the Fairfield, Iowa foundry.
Melting at our foundry is done by two 4-ton medium frequency melting furnaces with power pack and cooling tower.
Mold production uses Hunter 20 and B&P 20x16 automatic molding machines. Both lines have state of the art mold handling equipment. A Roto-lift mold station with 24x30 flask is used for larger castings.
We follow a rigorous, documented quality control plan across the entire manufacturing process. For example, a CMM is used to ensure dimensional accuracy to customer's prints.
We provide metallurgical testing at various stages of the casting process. Furnace chemistries are checked with an ARL spectrometer.
